12/2/2023 0 Comments 2013 opus one rating![]() Our tasting guide (for lack of a better term) was nice, asked the usual questions (Where you from? What do you do?), but after a few minutes took a step back, crossed her arms but I felt the same feeling I felt in 2007, which is why included both experiences for you to make your own informed decision. As palates vary with each person, the 2011 had a slightly more mineral finish, for me, the 2013 was more fruit-forward, as Napa is known for. We paid for a tasting of 3 wines, the 2011, Overture, and 2013. For a cab drinker, the wine is liquid gold! BUT, and that's a big but, we could have done without the aire of superiority, we're better than you, and if you don't like our wine, you don't know anything about wine. And at that moment, any sideways glares in the direction of our straw hat-wearing friend, or our tour guide's aloof answers to our questions disappeared into the bottled Napa Valley poetry. Long story short, we finished the tour and had a sample of the 'supermodel' of grapes. We asked normal questions and were interested. The tour itself was decent, we saw the machines that literally pick and choose only the best individual grapes that go into the wine making process. ![]() Opus was not our first stop back in 2007, we had been drinking at a bunch of wineries beforehand, one in our party was wearing a straw hat to the apparent dismay of our tour guide. That being said, we were very excited for the tour! Since my first trip to Opus was so long ago, I'll share the pertinent details so you can decide if it's worth the price of admission, and whether or not the wine itself is worth the "ambiance" or not. (First visit and tour was in 2007, the second was 2016.) Going back to 2007, we were a group of four, all hospitality service industry workers in high end Las Vegas restaurants. Here's the kicker: yesterday was my second visit, and I felt the same way both times. Allow me to explain, because I tend to leave only positive reviews and I don't want to represent a "bad day" as they call it. Stepping away from the velvety texture, there's an underlying feeling as if the employees almost feel like anyone visiting is not truly worthy of the Opus One experience. First of all, I need to say, Opus One is one of the best wines in California, personally it's one of my favorites for special occasions if you want a full-bodied, impeccably balanced wine, but I'm merely talking about what's IN the wine glass.
